Why Creating an "Outbox" is a Home Organizing Game Changer!

Your favorite Pasadena and Ventura home organizers are here, sharing one of our favorite home organizing tips to share with you today: Establish an “OUTBOX” to contain items that are going to leave your house, such as retail returns, library books that need to go back, items you borrowed for from a friend that are ready to go back, things of that nature. These types of items are are prime culprits for clutter because you don’t really want to put them away because they’re not going to be staying in your house much longer, so where do they go? They often tend to live on various surfaces or get shuffled from surface to surface while trying to tidy up.

So, by creating an “Outbox” it gives all those types of items one central home, so they don’t end up all over the house. And also having the “outbox” serves as a visual reminder to get these things on their way out. The key is to place the outbox in a convenient central location, such as by the front door, so that it’s easy to add things to it, and you’ll see the items on the way out the door. We’ve done home organizing in Pasadena where the client chose to keep their “Outbox” in a tote bag on their doorknob, so they could easily take it into the car with them while on errands. Brilliant! We did a project organizing in Sierra Madre where the client chose to keep their outbox by their garage door. We think that’s a great location too!
