Refresh Your Space This Spring
Spring Cleaning is a great time to go through your home and freshen up some of the spaces that need a little help. Was your closet looking and feeling organized not too long ago, and now it is feeling a bit cluttered again? Then it's time to take a moment to assess what's working and what's not working, and give it a refresh! There are so many benefits to having an organized space. This month I’ll be talking about how you can take a step back and evaluate your space, to see more clearly whether or not it’s working for you.
Evaluate How Your Space Is Working For You
First off, if a space was organized before and now it's slipped, I'm here to assure you that you haven't failed at organizing. You're not a robot, you're a person, and we aren't expecting perfection.
Because getting organized is not a one-and-done event. We continue to live and work within our spaces on a daily basis after we organize them, and we often continue to accumulate new items (although hopefully we bring in fewer retail purchases than before). And that can be messy sometimes, even with good systems in place for maintaining our spaces.
It’s helpful take a step back and evaluate how things are working, so that you can get your spaces back on track and functioning really well for you as your life evolves. Whether it's your closet, your kid's play space, your garage, or any other area of the house, you can ask yourself:
Is this space still functioning well for us, for how we live NOW?
What is not working for us in this space?
Is the organizing system as easy to maintain as we though it would be when we set it up?
Are the high use items easy to access, and easy enough to put away?
Does everything in this space belong in here?
Are we using this space in a different way or for additional purposes than we were when we first set it up? Do we need to make changes to accommodate this?
Did I actually use as many of these items as I thought I would?
Did we bring in new items without removing other items items, to maintain the balance?
Did we accumulate new items that we haven't designated a home for yet? (This can be a big one after the holidays!)
Asking these questions can help to bring awareness to what is and is not working within the space, which will help inform the changes you need to make to get your space working better for you.
A lot can change in our lives in a year, or even in just a few months, and our homes often reflect that in the form clutter. If you have some areas in your home that need a refresh, or you're ready to get organized and create a less stressful and more functional home, I'm here to help. We can do this!
